Christmas in Kensington Chelsea

Christmas in Kensington Chelsea

Friday, 23 November 2018

November is almost at an end and Christmas season is in full swing. If, like us here at Blakes, you are just wanting to wrap up in your warmest jackets, grab a glass of mulled wine and embrace this time of year with everything you have then read on – we have complied a list of all the best events in this Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

Learn about the good old days
Kensington Palace is taking you back to Victorian times this December with a range of exhibitions, talks and activities. Learn all about the real Queen Victoria in her childhood home and see a range of jewels that were gifted to her by her true love Prince Albert, travel back to 1851 and spend time with Victoria and Albert as they look for the true meaning of Christmas, hear all about how Christmas came to be what it is today and take the kids along to create their very own Victorian Christmas.

Show off your skills
Skate under the stars (well ok fairy lights) at the Natural History Museums Ice Rink this winter. Wrap up warm and glide/stumble along with friends and loved ones before warming up with a mulled wine.

Have a Drink in Narnia
Chelsea’s Bluebird café has transformed their courtyard into Narnia this winter. With heated lodges and cocktails flowing why not stop in after a day of shopping on the Kings Road.

Visit a unique Christmas Tree
The V&A Museum work with designers every year to create a Christmas Tree for the grand entrance and they never fail to amaze. From 2017’s singing tree to 2013’s red velvet tree, if you decide to see one tree in London this should be it. For 2018, they have commissioned Studio Weave who will turn the traditional tree into a 21st century architectural gateway.

Sing along
Among other very festive activities throughout December, such as afternoon tea with live Opera, A Christmas Carol told by Jacob Marley, the 30th Anniversary of ‘Whose Line is it Anyway’ and a journey through Santa’s Headquarters for the kids – The Royal Albert Hall invites you to join them for an evening of Carol Singing. You will be able to sing along to classics as well as festive favourites on the 23rd & 24th December.

Window Shop
We know that window shopping is hard at this time of year but in Kensington & Chelsea it is a must. While all the larger department stores do put on spectacular displays over the festive season, none truly compare to Harrods. Easily one of the most Instagrammable spots in London with it’s lit up exterior, the windows are a work of art in themselves. This year, the theme is Fantastica – a journey through rituals that take place on Christmas Day.

Our favourite? The Dolce & Gabbana Leftover Fridge! Oh – and why not pop in for a spot of gift shopping whilst you are there.

Watch a movie with Will & Kate
Ok so not actually with Will & Kate but technically in their house! We round of our list by travelling back to Kensington Palace for the Luna Winter Cinema which runs through December and will be showing classics such as Home Alone, Elf and It’s a Wonderful Life.
